Politecnico di Milano is the largest technical university in Italy. With 8 campuses and more than 40 departments, it covers all the areas of specialization in design, architecture and engineering. Politecnico di Milano has about 40,000 students and 1300 professors and staff.

The building is occupied by the owner.

Building 23 was constructed in 2006/2007 and it consists of five floors: the general administrative services for the students of Politecnico di Milano are situated on the first three floors, and the offices of the electronics department are on the top two floors. A janitor's room is on the ground floor. Two underground floors host the parking area.

Building concept
The building has a rectangular form. The facade is covered with black fiber reinforced concrete panels, which give the building a stoney look to the facade as well as providing insulation. The building has five floors above the ground and two floors in the basement for parking. The plan of each floor is rectangular. A central area and corridors connect the offices, which have both north and south-facing facades respectively.  The building is generally constructed with bricks and concrete walls. The slabs are also made of concrete, lightened with large perforated block or polystirene. Windows are double-glazed with aluminum frames.

HVAC concept
HVAC plants are placed on the roof. Four plant rooms host the computer for the control system and the electricity control board, the heat production system, the pump group and the cold storage. Air handling units (AHU) and the chiller are placed outdoors. The heating system consists of of four burners: two main generators each with a power of 326 kW for providing heat to the building and to the air treatment system coils, one steam generator with a power of 209 kW that provides moisture to the air humidification, and one boiler integrated burner of 24 kW for the domestic hot water production. The air treatment system consists of three air handling units that provide 32,000 mc/h of fresh air to the indoor environment. A heat recovery system extracts heat from the exhaust air. The cold production system consists of a 585 kW chiller and a cold storage of 1500 liters.  The climate of the building is temperature controlled by two pipe fancoil system, except for the bathrooms where the heating is provided only from radiators. Primary air treatment is due to the AHU on the roof. For the office lighting, generally neon lights are used, whereas flourescent lights are used in the connective areas. The HVAC system is controlled through an off-line control system, which is limited to the general control of delivery and return temperatures of the thermal fluids.
